Why Was It Built?
The Forbidden City was built to project the emperors conection to hevean and was suposed to be a small model of the cosmos. It was built as a defence for the emperor and his family. From 1406 to 1644 The Forbidden City housed the Ming Dynasty. Within that time there were 14 emperors. After they were overthrone the Qing Dynasty took over and they had 10 emperors in their reign. Both Dynastys had their families, eunuchs and servants with them and together they lived there for around 600 years. In 1924 the last emperor died and The Forbidden City became a heritage site but nobody was allowed in it until 1950. Anybody caught there without permision would be executed immediately.
